True freedom means having control over your own life, your own schedule, and your own choices. That is exactly what Bay Aging’s Veteran Directed Care (VDC) program honors every single day.
What is Veteran Directed Care?
The VDC program is built on a simple but powerful premise: those who fought for our country’s freedom have earned the right to manage their own care.
VDC is a self-directed program for eligible veterans of any age who are at risk of nursing home placement. The program helps veterans with disabilities or chronic conditions remain in their homes and communities for as long as possible.
Rather than assigning agency-directed services, the program empowers Veterans with more choices, control, flexibility, and freedom by directing their own care. Veterans choose what assistance is most helpful and decide exactly what helps them thrive at home – often selecting people they already trust.
The Power of Personal Choice
One of the most meaningful aspects of the VDC program is who provides the care. Veterans have the autonomy to hire, train, and employ their own personal care aides. Frequently choosing trusted family members, neighbors, and lifelong friends.
