Bay Aging has named David Fols the new director of Bay Transit. Fols replaces Transit Director Ken Pollock, who retires on February 14 following more than 20 years of distinguished service. Fols formerly served as Bay Transit’s Fleet Manager for nearly 12 years.
Bay Aging conducted a national search in advance of Pollock’s retirement. According to Kathy Vesley, Bay Aging President & CEO, “Transit Director is one of the most challenging roles at Bay Aging. Our transit division serves 3,000 square miles – that’s bigger than the state of Delaware. We considered candidates from all over the country, and what stood out was David’s dedication, his deep knowledge of Bay Transit’s systems, and his compassion for our clients. He personifies our goal of operating with the heart of a charity and the mind of a business.”
“I am honored to serve Bay Aging as Transit Director,” Fols stated. “I look forward to continuing to modernize Bay Transit’s services to increase access to transportation for the thousands of community members who rely on our services to get to work, school, medical appointments, grocery stores, and more.”
Among Fols’ first projects is the implementation of Bay Transit’s expanding microtransit service, which serves riders through an app on their phone. Clients can hail a ride within the service area and be picked up in minutes at a cost of just $1. Following the success of microtransit in Gloucester, the Bay Transit Express Paper Trail launched on December 2 and serves West Point, Eltham, and portions of King & Queen County.
